SMTP checks

SMTP monitoring that proves mail is actually being accepted

Add your mail server to WatchControl and we'll run a real SMTP handshake on every check — confirming it greets and accepts connections, not merely that the port is open.

Real handshake

We connect, read the 220 greeting and send EHLO, expecting a 250 — so a hung or misconfigured server is caught, not just a dead port.

Any SMTP port

Watch port 25, submission on 587 or SMTPS on 465 — whichever your server uses.

Checked on your schedule

Mail servers are re-checked alongside your other monitors, so silent failures surface fast.

Alerts where you work

Email and webhook on every plan, plus SMS, routed to the tools your team already uses.

Why it matters

A mail server can be “up” and still rejecting your mail

A plain port check tells you a socket is open — not that mail is flowing. A full disk, a broken TLS config, a crashed queue or a greylisting loop can leave the port answering while messages bounce. WatchControl speaks SMTP to your server on every check, so you find out before your customers' receipts, password resets and invoices stop arriving.

Because the handshake runs on your normal interval, a regression after a config change or upgrade is caught in minutes, not when someone reports missing email.

The whole mail stack

Cover every layer your email depends on

Email relies on more than the server itself. Pair SMTP checks with DNS monitoring for your MX and SPF records, SSL checks for the mail server's certificate, and domain expiry for the domain — so every layer is watched from one place.

One account, one dashboard, one set of alerts across uptime, certificates, DNS and mail.
